BLACK Communion is an event series that unapologetically promotes the creative practices in the field of sonics within the Black diaspora.

BLACK Communion is the sharing of experiences from the transnational Afro-diaspora, breaking down genre boundaries and encouraging experimentation through collaboration. This event series is a celebration of the connection between artists coming from various backgrounds and creative communities, united by their sonic activism ranging from composition to improvisation and sound art practices.

For each of the editions there will be encounters of three artists from either the Americas, Europe and Africa. The first evening Sera Kalo, Robert Machiri, and Masimba Hwati will perform on their own, and on the second evening (June 19th), there will be open collaborations and improvisation amongst them.

This event is for the third night of the first edition of the 2026 Black Communion.

Program Teil 1



  • Sera Kalo | Sera Kalo is a Berlin-based vocalist, composer, and bandleader working across experimental jazz, free improvisation, and contemporary sound. Her music reclaims jazz as a living act of resistance rooted in its diasporic origins, unbound by genre.

Program Teil 2



  • Robert Machiri | Robert Machiri’s works oscillate on a celestial view of the ear from the body, which is to underscore sounding as a critical mode of observation.

Program Teil 3



  • Masimba Hwati | Masimba Hwati is an interdisciplinary artist, performer, and sound researcher originally from Mhondoro, Mashonaland West Province, Zimbabwe.
