Cemetery Chapel Concerts -Cusack/Zielińska /Khorkhordina

Cemetery Chapel Concerts is a concert series featuring musicians from Berlin’s Echtzeitmusik scene and international guests. From May to September, various chapel spaces of the Evangelischer Friedhofsverband Berlin Mitte open for the first time as venues for improvisation, experimental music, and sound art.

On 8 May, the three musicians will explore their ways of music-making in the places and spaces among the trees and shrubs surrounding the chapel at Friedhof St. Elisabeth II Cemetery. They may move or stay still in different locations they find. Perhaps birds will sing and leaves will rustle in the wind. The distant city will be a background. During the concert, the evening light will slowly fade, changing the atmosphere and the acoustics in which the music is heard. Their playing and the cemetery sounds of the cemetery will also be live-streamed to loudspeakers that play quietly in the chapel. The audience is invited to walk in the same parts of cemetery too, chosing paths to and from the musics played and to listen to the streamed version in the chapel itself.
