The current brand of populist governance - though buoyed by significant economic growth - is premised on a vision of India that champions the Hindu majority, testing not only the limits of secularism as enshrined in the constitution, but the quality of life in the rapidly growing and increasingly dystopian urban landscapes that many are seeking an exit from. As much a mirror of this economic growth as it is an insight into the ideological aspirations of the majority, the air - literally and figuratively - is becoming increasingly difficult to breathe.
Almost by virtue of its inherent subjectivity, sound and performance art - be it harsh, immersive, repellent or utterly intuitive - is a toolkit that we deploy to not only locate these people within this landscape, but to suggest they can find each other within the liminal, iterative arenas we create. The artistry we showcase and help foster has historically scored that search.
This iteration of our event series, REProduce Listening Room, will showcase five artists from not only across disciplines, but across geographies, all united by both a lived and liminal memory of this landscape.
