Ni-Vu-Ni-Connu is an independent film and record production company founded in 2012 by Luxembourgish director Antoine Prum. Among other things, he has produced several films about iconic figures from the free jazz and free improvisation scene: Sunnyʼs time now (2008) about the life and work of avant-garde drummer Sunny Murray, one of the most influential figures of the free jazz revolution; Taking the Dog for a Walk (2014), a documentary that provides an impressive overview of the British improvisation scene; and Blue for a Moment (2017), which traces the artistic career of Berlin-based Swedish jazz musician, avant-garde composer, poet and visual artist Sven-Åke Johansson, one of the most idiosyncratic and adventurous figures in European improvised music. Antoine Prum shows excerpts from his films and talks to Mathias Maschat about his artistic work. One of the themes in Blue for a Moment is how the spirit of freedom and non-conformism has persisted and developed in the improvisation scene around Johansson over the decades. It also deals with the aspect of the professional production of film documentations of ephemeral events – in an artistic environment in which such large-scale film projects tend to be the exception.
