Marmalsana is a fusion of influences as Tony Elieh from Beirut and Maurice Louca from Cairo moved to Berlin, where they both developed new techniques inspired by the musical diversity and encounters that Berlin offers artists. Burkhard Beins is one of the founders of the real-time music movement, which has influenced many other musicians and scenes around the world.

Their music represents all these backgrounds, styles and influences, driven by the expertise and experience of each individual musician. They fuse their individual contributions into a unified whole, moving dazzlingly between different sonic places and moments beyond instrumental recognisability.

This journey leads from Beirut via Berlin to Cairo and forms a nomadic musical language. Elieh and Beins have their own duo, Zone Null (with two electric basses and electronics), while Elieh and Louca are also members of the septet group Karkhana and Dog Plugs. The three musicians met for the first time to work on new collective compositions played only with acoustic instruments without amplification, using extended techniques and objects to create soundscapes of drones, textures, melodies and polyrhythms.
