As part of MaerzMusik – Festival for Contemporary Issues 2026, QuerKlang will premiere collective compositions by Berlin school students. Within the framework of the multi-award-winning program and UNESCO model “QuerKlang – Experimental Composing in Schools,” they explore sounds, relate them to each other, and make their discoveries audible to others.
They are accompanied by teams consisting of educators, composers, and students. The worlds of school, university education, and freelance composers are brought together in an exciting and inspiring context.
The project phase kicks off with a block week in which all participants – students, teachers, artists, and teacher training students – get to know each other and form teams in artistic workshops. This is followed by weekly meetings that are integrated into regular lessons at the participating Berlin schools.
QuerKlang offers students the opportunity to develop their creativity and discover their own artistic abilities. By working together in interdisciplinary teams, they learn to contribute their individual strengths, go through collective processes, and create something new together.
These concerts feature world premieres of collectively created group compositions by students from the Anna Freud School – OSZ für Sozialwesen – Schöneberg, students from the Freie Grundschule Pfefferwerk – Prenzlauer Berg, students from the Willkommensschule Tegel – Reinickendorf, and students from the Friedensburg Oberschule – Wilmersdorf.
