The Schlippenbach/Walsdorff Quartet was founded in 2013 by Alexander v. Schlippenbach (piano) and Henrik Walsdorff (alto saxophone).

The band’s concept is to showcase the full range of modern progressive jazz, highlighting the elements common to all branches of the genre.

Part of the program consists of freely improvised pieces; in the best tradition of free jazz, there are no prearranged plans, and even the musicians themselves don’t always know what to expect when playing together.

Another part of the program features classic, though rarely performed, modern jazz compositions by Thelonious Monk, Herbie Nichols, and Eric Dolphy.

At the core of the music are both old and new original compositions by Alexander v. Schlippenbach, combining fully composed sections with free elements to illustrate the connection between traditional jazz and free improvisation.

Program

Alexander v. Schlippenbach – piano, Henrik Walsdorff – Altsaxophon, Antonio Borghini – Kontrabass ,Jan Leipnitz – drums
