Our unique duo instrumentation mezzo-soprano and cello allows for seeking new directions in contemporary music. With improvisation, contemporary compositions and a recent arrangement of a famous baroque aria, we will explore musical connections between our two home countries: Germany and the USA. Each work is an exploration in an unknown, perhaps strange world and the program as a whole a grand tour between continents and sound colors that will bring us closer to each other and ourselves during the concert. This tour brings us to other dimensions blurring borders: An exchange among instrument, voice, hands and gestures, we will connect the sound body of the cello with our bodies. Traditional styles of playing and singing will co-mingle with new and experimental sounds in humourous and sad, strange and meaningful songs carried by the deep resonance of the low registers of mezzo-soprano and cello. We invite the audience to join us on this inner and outer adventure through feeling, hearing and seeing. The title of the concert: TRAUMES HOFFNUNG, in English, "Dream's hope", is a quote from »Varianten zu Michelangelo« by Ruth Zechlin, an East Berlin composer. With our concert TRAUMES HOFFNUNG, we are exploring a palette of possibilities thus removing the limits of our duo's instrumentation, the geographical distances of our homelands and the boundaries between voice and cello, dreams and reality.
