Woven around the voice of Keramat Ali, a prisoner of war from Mymensingh in Bengal (now Bangladesh), recorded in 1918 in the Halfmoon prison camp in Wünsdorf, Germany and now kept in the sound archives of Humboldt University, this performance will explore the many stories and possibilities of stories that Keramat Ali’s voice and his single Personal Bogen (information sheet) can lead us to. A singer, writer, field researcher/recordist and archivist.
Moushumi Bhowmik will weave her own singing voice with archival sounds, paintings, moving image, historical record and field recordings to tell these many stories, unbegun and unfinished, such as the glimpses of history that we get by travelling with this sound recording made by Wilhelm Doegen.
