Berlin is one of the most exciting cities for contemporary music with a scene that moves between the experimental spaces of the independent scene and established concert halls. The Month of Contemporary Music brings this diversity to life each year, showcasing a wide range of artistic positions, current trends, and new works through concerts, performances, and sound installations.

In a three-day program from September 13 to September 15, 2025, Art Music Denmark, Austrian Music Export, Kultur | lx – Arts Council Luxembourg, Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia, and field notes invite musicians, composers, ensembles, and curators to explore the Berlin scene and connect with its key actors.

The programme includes:

  • The opening concert of the Month of Contemporary Music on September 13, 2025, featuring the AGGREGATE Festival by gamut inc at the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church
  • More concert visits with artist talks
  • Studio visits and meetings with project spaces
  • Networking events with Berlin-based artists and organizers
  • Opportunities to connect with other international participants of the programme

To ensure the programme is tailored to the individual needs of participants, we offer personal consultation before the trip and support in arranging meetings with key figures in the Berlin music scene.

Application

The program is primarily aimed at organizers, curators, ensemble representatives, composers, and musicians from the field of new and eperimental music. The travel is considered particularly beneficial for individuals and organizations with concrete plans or ideas for collaborations. Due to the limited number of participants, only one person per organization can be supported.

Applications can be submitted via an online form.

Submission deadline for Danish, Swiss, and Luxembourgish artists: April 23, 2025
Submission deadline for Austrian artists: April 28, 2025

The selection will be made by a jury consisting of representatives from Art Music Denmark, Austrian Music Export, Kultur | lx – Arts Council Luxembourg, and Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia as well as the inm / field notes Berlin. For inquiries, please contact lisa.benjes@inm-berlin.de.

Costs

For artists, curators, and representatives of ensembles or festivals from Denmark, Luxembourg and Switzerland the partner organisations will cover travel and accommodation costs.

The travel cost support for music industry professionals based in Austria is co-financed through funding from the LSG Producers and the Trade Association of the Film and Music Industry. A maximum travel cost subsidy of EUR 500 per person is available. Travel, accommodation, concert tickets, and individual meals must be financed independently. A limited number of discounted rooms (approx. EUR 100/night, possible stay from September 13–16, 2025) are available at the partner hotel. The subsidy will be paid out upon submission of receipts.

If you are interested in the program but not from one of the partner countries, you are still warmly invited to participate. However, please note that we are unable to cover the costs.

Impressions by a former participant of the program

“It was a really exciting visiting programme. Even though the program was intense, it worked really well to be bombarded with impressions. I took a lot with me from there, both concrete experiences and lots of food for thought. After the trip, I got in touch with several ensembles and a festival director.“
Mads Emil Dreyer, composer. Participated in the visiting programme September 2022
