Founded in Berlin in 1997, ensemble mosaik is known for its constant experimentation across genres and disciplines, creating laboratory situations in which artistic research is possible. Over the years, ensemble mosaik has developed a completely new playing culture through the regularly practised, multifaceted interaction of instrumental, performative, electronic, multimedia or scenic means of expression and the most diverse performance situations, which has become a model for many younger ensembles. The greatly expanded palette of new playing techniques on more or less historical instruments, the virtuoso handling of sometimes unusual instruments such as synthesizers or multifaceted sound objects, the indissoluble interplay or precise interplay between analogue-produced and electro-acoustically transformed sounds, acoustic and visual feeds are characteristic of ensemble mosaik's concert performances. The great wealth of unusual means and techniques of sound production and articulation on stage is regularly expanded to include further levels of perception, creating fascinating networks of the most diverse sensory impressions.

Since its beginnings, ensemble mosaik has regularly forged lasting and intensive working relationships with internationally sought-after composers, not least with Enno Poppe, who has been a permanent ensemble member since 1998, conducts most of the ensemble's concerts and has made a significant contribution to the ensemble's "team building" with his ground-breaking works. Above all, however, ensemble mosaik has been committed to supporting young composers since its beginnings - often in conjunction with renowned co-operation partners such as the Goethe-Institut or the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation. ensemble mosaik develops its

profile mainly through its own productions, for the realisation of which it acquires project funding from public and private funding programmes. It regularly cooperates with institutions such as the Akademie der Künste or the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Programme and is represented at the Berlin festivals for contemporary music Ultraschall, MaerzMusik and Klangwerkstatt. In addition, it is regularly present at renowned international festivals and concert series with its own productions and guest performances. It constantly establishes intercultural contacts and encourages exchange projects.



The basis of ensemble mosaik's work is the collectively formed ensemble, whose profile and standard has grown through many years of joint rehearsals and concerts. The ensemble's potential is based on the characteristic personalities and artistic interests of its members, on the continuously accumulated wealth of experience from joint rehearsal and project work and the discourse on content that constantly accompanies it. Five musicians have been with the ensemble since it was founded, and almost all members have been playing in the ensemble for more than 15 years.
