In this concert, Jan Gerdes presents his new album »»East-West-Central-South« (GENUIN) with works by African composers from the years 1987 to 2022. In an increasingly internationalised and diversified contemporary music scene, Gerdes focuses on the current musical output of several African countries.

Musical paradigms of Western contemporary music are transformed by the selected composers and replaced by their own paradigms, while musically and rhythmically more traditional influences from the respective countries of origin repeatedly find their place in the new compositions. In this way, new listening experiences and a comprehensive view of contemporary music creation beyond the purely Western perspective become possible.

With the album »East-West-Central-South«, Jan Gerdes wants to make a contribution to enriching the diversity of the European new music scene.
On 5th july 2024 the album was released on CD/Vinyl/Digital on Genuin classics.
Many thanks to the Lund foundation for the financial support of this project.
