Nakul Krishnamurthy, Maarten Visser, and Jeremy Woodruff use multiple prepared Tamburas, electronics and saxophones to create prismatic pyschoacoustic effects in the unusual acoustic environment of the newly renovated Galilee Kirche.
Slowing down the rate of frequency shift to an imperceptible speed together with repeating morphing lines and drones will be directed variously into different corners of the church space to reflect and resonate in the dome in changing ways.
As the awareness of the shift increases the shift in laya (time) also becomes more and more implicated, until a state of maximum pitch separation is reached and new individuations of the parts is achieved. This approach mirrors aspects of the tambura’s role as the ongoing drone and how shifting states of consciousness imply in reality that this accompaniment in Indian music, although appearing static, never is.
